In the Baltic countries electricity production grows 40% on November

Production of electric energy meanwhile grew 40% to 1,083 GWh. Production surpassed consumption by 290 GWh and exports mainly went to Finland.

The output of renewable energy grew one % compared with November 2015 to 138 GWh. Renewable energy made up 15.4% of the energy consumed in Estonia during the month.

In Latvia the production of electric energy increased 43% to 815 GWh while consumption grew 5 %. The surplus of the Latvian electricity system reached 168 GWh as a significant boost in the hydro resource quadrupled the output of the cascade of hydroelectric power stations on the river Daugava. The last time Latvia produced more electric energy was in April 2011, when output totaled 943 GWh.

In Lithuania output grew 36% to 329 GWh and consumption was up 7% at 891 GWh. The deficit of the Lithuanian electricity system contracted and electricity produced by domestic generating parties covered 37% of domestic demand.

In the Baltic countries as a whole, electricity production increased by 40% y-o-y to 2,226 GWh and consumption was up 8% at 2,332 GWh. The increase in output was largely the result of a deficit in the Nordic countries and abundance of water in Latvia. The gross deficit of the electricity balance of the three countries contracted from 580 GWh in November 2015 to 106 GWh last month. The deficit equaled 5% of consumption.
